A New Trainer Airplane for MARCS

Recently MARCS had someone donate a Great Planes/Tower Hobbies PT-40 to the club. We weren’t sure if it had ever been flown but we did know it was in storage for a while. Our club president Marc refurbished the engine and did a little body work. Today we got to fire it up for the first time.

This airplane will be used to train new pilots and will be available to fly with a buddy box during our annual memorial fun fly on June 2nd.

Ken Page Memorial Fun-Fly and Open House

The MARCS annual memorial fun-fly, open house, and picnic to start our flying season is on Sunday June 2nd from 10am to 4pm. Everyone is invited including the public. There will be a raffle for a ready-to-fly Corsair model plane (photos below) and members will offer guidance and instruction to interested modelers and people who have questions about joining our club. We’ll even have instructors and a few trainer planes available so we can give new pilots a chance to try out flying!

The picnic will feature grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, and soft drinks provide by the club. Admission and parking for the event is free but there will be a donation jar on-hand if you would like to help support the club. Club members will be bringing side dishes (and guests may do that as well) so we always have a lot of great food at our picnic!

At around noon we will have a ceremony to honor members who have “Flown West” and this usually includes a “missing man” formation. Otherwise it’s open flying all day. Guest pilots are required to have an AMA membership because MARCS is an AMA field. Please bring a current AMA card with you if you would like to fly.

Mid-America Throwdown Coming to MARCS

Quad racing is coming back to MARCS! We are proud to announce that MARCS will be hosting the Akron qualifier for the Mid-America Throwdown Regional Championship Series on July 28th with our friends from Quad Racing Group Ohio.

The Mid-America Throwdown Regional Championship Series pits the best pilots from the Eastern Midwestern United States and surrounding areas to find out who is the fastest pilots in the area!

Pilots all over the most passionate drone racing region will be battling at 11 qualifier events to be awarded an invitation to throw down and stake their claim as the fastest drone racer in the region!

Pilots will be qualifying on the 2019 Texas State Championships Qualifier track so pilots can earn their bragging rights as they post superior qualifying times to those of the Texas pilots.

Racing culminates in Hamilton, OH, just outside of Cincinnati, for what is sure is to be an epic 2 days of racing action where we crown both a Pro class and Sportsman class 2019 Mid-America Throwdown Champion!

We’d like to thank Paul Adkins at QRGO for bringing the excitement of quad racing back to MARCS for a second year.
